How To Choose Diamond Segments

With over 20 years of manufacturing experience, Kaida Stone Machinery specializes in producing a wide range of stone processing equipment, including 5-axis CNC cutting machines, block cutting machines, and infrared bridge cutting machines. Our expertise covers both stone cutting and polishing machinery, serving customers around the world with reliable, high-performance solutions.

Among the key components in stone cutting, diamond segments play a vital role in determining cutting precision, efficiency, and durability. Kaida Stone Machinery manufactures diamond segments suitable for processing various natural stones such as quartz, andesite, basalt, sandstone, and marble, and we also provide customization services to meet specific requirements.

This article will briefly explain how to choose the best diamond segments.

how to choose diamond segments

Diamond Grit Size
When the diamond grit is relatively large and uniform, the segment is sharper and offers higher cutting efficiency. However, its bending strength will decrease. When the grit is smaller and a mix of different sizes is used, the durability of the segment improves, but efficiency decreases. Considering both factors, a grit size of around 50/60 mesh is generally optimal.

Diamond Concentration Distribution
Within a certain range, as the diamond concentration increases from low to high, both sharpness and cutting efficiency improve, and the service life is extended. However, if the concentration is too high, the segment may become blunt. By using different concentrations in different layers (e.g., a three-layer or multi-layer structure with lower concentration in the middle layer), grooves can be formed on the tool's working surface. This helps prevent segment deviation and improves the cutting quality of stone.

Diamond Segment Strength
Segment strength is a key indicator of cutting performance. If the strength is too high, diamonds are less likely to break, but the abrasive grains become blunt during operation, reducing sharpness and cutting performance. If the strength is too low, diamonds break easily under impact. The optimal segment strength should be in the range of 130–140 N.

At Kaida Stone Machinery, we are committed to providing diamond segments that deliver outstanding performance, long service life, and excellent value. Our products are trusted by stone processing professionals worldwide for their precision, reliability, and efficiency.
